I recently had the opportunity to photograph the YWCA of Olympia, a community-centered organization rooted in advocacy, support, and connection. This session was focused on creating a collection of images the organization could use to better share its space, its leadership, and the welcoming environment it provides to the community.

The session began with updated headshots for Alli, the Director of the YWCA of Olympia. Alli was incredibly warm, friendly, and welcoming throughout the entire process, which made it easy to capture images that felt approachable, professional, and authentic. Since she regularly speaks publicly on behalf of the organization, these headshots were created with versatility in mind so they can be used for speaking engagements, organizational materials, website updates, and other public-facing needs.

In addition to headshots, we captured interior and exterior photos of the facility. These images were designed to help the YWCA promote its community rental spaces and show the character of the building in a way that feels inviting and accessible. Photographing a space like this is about more than documenting walls, rooms, and entrances. It is about capturing how the space feels and how people may imagine gathering, learning, working, or connecting there.

One of the most meaningful parts of the session was seeing volunteers on site helping with landscaping. Their presence added a beautiful sense of movement and community care to the day. Those moments helped tell a fuller story of the YWCA as not just a facility, but a place supported by people who care deeply about its mission and its role in Olympia.

This session reflects one of the reasons I value nonprofit and community-focused photography so much. Strong imagery can help organizations communicate their work more clearly, promote their services, and connect with the people they serve. For the YWCA of Olympia, the final gallery provides a mix of professional headshots, facility imagery, volunteer moments, and community-centered visuals that can support future outreach, promotion, and storytelling.

Marble & Bone Studio is grateful for the opportunity to help document spaces and organizations that serve meaningful roles in the community. This session was a reminder that photography can do more than create polished images. It can help people see the care, purpose, and connection behind the work.
